Garmin lets users customize watchfaces with brand new Face-It app

Garmin has just released an app that lets us use our own pictures as a watchface background for our Garmin wearables.

The app is called Face-It and is available for free for Android and iPhone smartphone owners. No Windows Mobile version for now.

Face-IT is compatible with all Garmin Connect IQ wearable devices.

Here is the full list: Fenix 3 (regular, HR, and Sapphire versions), Forerunner 230, 235, 630, 735TX, 920XT, Vivoactive and Vivoactive HR, D2 Bravo, epix, quatix 3, tactix Bravo.

It is a new app, no more than one week old, and some users are reporting bugs and problems on their Fenix and Forerunner devices.

Wear your personality on your sleeve

Your dog, your baby or your last meal can now proudly hang on your wrist.

Once you download and install it, the app seems to be easy to use.

First, create your watch face. Choose a photo from your library, choose a style for the clock (digital or analogue) and send it all to your wearable device. The first time you do that you will have to sign in to your Garmin account.

Then, open Garmin Connect and sync your device as usual to enable the new watchface. You can find all your watchfaces you have created in the Watchface menu on your device.

High expectations, low resolutions

However, keep in mind that Garmin wearables have good battery lives thanks to their inherently low-res screens. So don’t expect miracles and high detail, opt-in for simpler images, illustrations, etc.

Now, all that is left for Garmin is to hit the floor with a new wearable device with higher resolution. Polar M600 is a great example for an Android Wear smartwatch coming from a company famous for their dedicated fitness wearables.
