The Asus ZenWatch 2 isn't nearly the best smartwatch out there. But, with a comfy fit, an affordable price tag and (albeit limited) iPhone compatibility, it's far better than what was expected.

The Asus ZenWatch 2's big premise is individuality and affordability and, on these points, it's somewhat of a success. It's cheap - especially in the US (UK buyers get a bit of a bum deal) and there's loads of combinations to choose from. However, it feels more like a competitor to the Pebble Time than a genuine Android Wear contender. It's not as smart as Sony's AW devices and it's not as stylish as entrants from the LG and Moto corners. Treat the ZenWatch sequel as a smartwatch gateway device, expect no bells and whistles, and you won't be disappointed.

So there you have it, for this in-depth look at the ASUS ZenWatch 2! There are a lot of great looking smartwatches out there, but one that offers such quality at such a competitive price point is rare. If you’re looking to get into the smartwatch game, the ZenWatch 2 is a great option, with it sporting a beautiful, luxurious look, while still having very simple aesthetics. It is customizable enough, with different choices for colors, sizes, and watch bands, that makes finding your own style very easy. You might have to end up charging this smartwatch more often than any others, but if that is the only compromise that has to be made to accommodate the inexpensive price, you can’t go wrong with the ASUS ZenWatch 2.

The ZenWatch 2 isn’t going to drag smartwatches fully into the mainstream, but Asus has made a stylish, affordable device which improves upon the first ZenWatch in all the areas that count.

Even though I enjoy wearables with lots of functionality, if a smartwatch can help me triage notifications, last all day, and provide the time then that's basically all I need. The ZenWatch 2 provides this, and much more, at the lowest price available today for an Android Wear watch.
